A Safe and Vibrant Space for Learning, Growth, and Connection 🌟
After a couple of years of seeing that our Education Center alone could not meet the growing needs of the rural community of Ranchitos, San Carlos, we knew we had to do more. In this area, there are very few recreational, educational, or cultural activities and almost no safe spaces for children and youth where families can afford to send them.
Thanks to the generous support of Terry and Ron Challis and a family foundation from Oregon, the Community Center opened its doors in August 2024. Since day one, the sound of laughter, learning, and discovery has filled the space. It has become a place where children improve their academic skills, explore new interests, and most importantly: find safety, care, and community. For many of them, this center is a second home, especially for those who would otherwise spend their afternoons alone while their parents work.
Our main goal is to provide academic tutoring for children who are behind in school and need extra help to catch up. We also offer English classes, a subject that is not regularly taught in local public schools, giving our students a valuable skill that opens new opportunities for their future.

Academic and educational support

Explorers Club
The Explorers Club, one of our most beloved programs, takes place twice a week. Right after school, our teachers pick up the children and bring them to the Community Center, where they are welcomed with a nutritious meal prepared by volunteer mothers from the community. Then, they dive into themed projects that spark curiosity and creativity, exploring topics such as the solar system, values, nature, and more.
Through play and discovery, they develop teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a love for learning.
The Community Center is also home to several of our other programs
A growing impact
Today, the Community Center welcomes around 100 children and youth each week through its different programs. Every activity, class, and shared meal represents an opportunity for a better future, one where education, safety, and hope are within reach.
This is more than a building, it’s a beacon of opportunity for Ranchitos and beyond.
