Music has always been at the heart of Castaway Kids because of its powerful impact on children’s intellectual, social, and emotional growth.

Founded in 2019, our Music Program began as a small Steel Pan project in San Carlos and has now become a space where children learn, grow, and find joy through music.

Today, the program serves around 30 children and offers instruction in Steel Pans, Percussion, Strings, and Brass. Classes take place Monday through Friday at our main Castaway Kids building in San Carlos, where dedicated instructors guide the students in both individual practice and group performance.

Our student band, Los Chicos de San Carlos, proudly represents the program at local events and community celebrations. In 2024, they reached an exciting milestone with their first performance in the state capital, Hermosillo.

The program continues to grow thanks to the support of donors, volunteers, and visiting musicians from Mexico, the United States, and Canada who share their time and expertise.

Through music, these children find discipline, creativity, and a sense of belonging, transforming their lives one note at a time.

Music is more than just notes, it’s connection, growth, and joy.
Here are some moments that capture what happens inside and outside the classroom: rehearsals, performances, and the smiles that make every effort worth it.

Support the Music Program

You can help keep the music playing!

Your support allows us to provide instruments, supplies, and music instruction for children who might otherwise not have access to this opportunity.

There are many ways to help:

  • Donate instruments (especially brass, percussion, and guitars)

  • Contribute to instructor and maintenance costs

  • Volunteer — come share your time and talent with the kids!

Together, we’re not just creating musicians, we’re creating opportunities, confidence, and hope.
