ACTA DE ASAMBLEA GENERAL ORDINARIA
Wow!! Year 2010 has started off with a BANG at CASTAWAY
KIDS! The Construction Committee has succeeded in
stretching $57,000 in post-Jimena donations to build or re-roof
40 houses for victims of Jimena who lost everything, through the
physical labor of many of our own volunteers and the
homeowners themselves. 32 have been completed, (mostly
concrete block and brick) and 8 more are ready to start and
should be completed in the next two weeks ! Some other
organizations have volunteered to come help build some homes
for families who have needs not necessarily related to Jimena
and new volunteers are showing up for our meetings and asking
how they can help. The word is getting out as to how much this
organization is accomplishing and people want to be a part of it.
In our other area of primary interest, student sponsorship, 15
new sponsors stepped up, many of them through our gift
certificate program over the holidays. They will be meeting their
students and beginning new relationships in the months to
come.
I thanked all of our members and volunteers at our last
meeting for making a difference in the lives of others-- and in
their own. Come to a meeting or share our website or
newsletters with your friends. Castaway Kids is a growing force!

NEW SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
There simply is no better gift than the gift of education, providing
a child with the tools necessary to better his or her own life. We’
re proud to announce that “Adelante Estudiante”, a committee of
hard working, dedicated volunteers, has officially joined
Castaway Kids and already has received scholarship
applications from more than 40 kids! You’d be surprised at how
little it takes to help keep a child from bagging groceries for a
living at age 12 rather than continuing on with an education. But
in a city where many families live on $10 a day, those costs are
often impossible to meet. Read more about this wonderful
